Sankofa Literacy Seminars We give Multimedia seminars making explicit the Teaching and Learning Processes that guide diverse learners to dispel myths, correct stereotypes, and clarify misconceptions about themselves and others. The participants read and research to engage in critical literacy -- understanding the historical roots and consequences of ones values and beliefs and the values and beliefs of others -- to clarify their worldviews for reading, viewing and listening and to find their authentic voices for writing and speaking. These seminars foster Diversity and Cultural Competence and Empowerment for the classroom and workplace. These Cross-cultural Multimedia seminars display some possible models of what we invite students and teachers to look like and sound like: Pre-service, post-baccalaureate, and in-service teachers begin to engage in critical literacy and become more pedagogically responsive to culturally diverse students. Diverse college literacy students begin to engage in critical literacy to inspire self-motivation for independent reading and for excelling on standardized tests. Student Teachers and Preservice Teachers engage in teaching cross-cultural indigenous values in character education.
